Don
Collier has recently been promoted to Deputy Leader of the Borough of
Poole and remains as the Portfolio Holder for the Environment
in The Borough of Poole, a position he has held since 2004. He has always
had an interest in politics and was elected to represent Parkstone Ward
in Poole in 1999. He has lived and worked in Poole since early 1984.
An active diver and sailor , Don has done hundreds of dives through the
UK and in particular in the South West since the early 70's. He has sailed
extensively around South West.
He moved to Poole from London, where
he worked in Commodities in the City, to set up The Poole Dive Centre,
a world famous BSAC diving school, which he ran for 10 years. Don sold
the Dive School and now works as an IT consultant in workflow management.
Combining
Don's business acumen and experience with his Political interests led
him to stand for election in Poole to help it become the place he knows
it can be. He now wants to use the Political skills he has learnt to
improve the lives of a wider population.
Don
is a passionate environmentalist and is concerned by the damage that
is currently being done by this Government to this country. He believes
that this damage is not confined to the environment.
Don believes that
the “command
and control” state created by this government is slowly destroying
what it seeks to protect. Hospitals with more administrators than Beds,
more CCTV cameras per head of population than any other country in the
World and a “Law for everything” mentality are some of the
things that are removing people’s liberty, privacy and hope.
He is appalled by
the Labour Party’s
failure to scrutinise or stand up to the European legislature and demands
a referendum on the constitutional treaty.
